10 tips to help you deal with a car accident
1. Do not panic or lose your temper.
2. Call 911 to report any injuries from the accident.
3. Call the police to report your accident. Make sure to obtain the report number and the name of the officer who prepared the report.
4. Make sure to exchange insurance information, vehicle license tab number and driver's license number.
5. Take photos with your cellphone.
6. Locate any witnesses of the accident.
7. Contact the DMV. It is required in some states. For example, the California Department of Motor Vehicles requires you to report all accidents if: (a) there is more than $750 in property damage; (b) anyone was injured, no matter how minor; or (c) anyone was killed. This is known as the “Traffic Accident Report SR 1”. Each driver must file this report, regardless of whether or not you caused the accident. It must be filed even if the accident occurred on private property such as one's driveway.
8. File an insurance claim with your insurance carrier.
9. Do not underestimate the extent of your damages from the accident.
10. Talk to a auto accident / personal injury attorney to find out what your rights are.

Nice tips! I got one more. For all you newbie car accident victims, if the accident is just minor, PLEASE pull your car over to the side of the road! It's pretty obnoxious when people have a slight rear ending accident and block the whole freeway to exchange insurance information. But of course, do it safely!

Most insurance companies provide the drivers with the necessary information on what to do with their insurance cards. It basically follows these 10 steps. One that is often left out though is the calling of an Indianapolis personal injury attorney or one in whichever area you are in. This is an important step if there has been any injury involved.

Nice tip, but do you really think during accidents one is in a condition to be calm enough to not panic?

Maybe one can be calm before an accident but no, during an accident, everyone may freak out.

Exactly, and during accident those are reflexes which spontaneously come into act. Very little we can do anything voluntarily....

Very true, and once the authenticity about the author is being confirmed, you can prepare for the lawsuit to carried out.
